Many webhosts allow the customer to create custom nameservers setup for shared hosting resellers. Sometimes it's a part of a reseller hosting package, and sometimes it's part of a custom webhosting deal.
Is it recommended to have a custom DNS nameservers (custom DNS, reseller nameservers, stealth nameservers) for your domain?
Webmasters usually go for custom nameservers because they think it's good for their reputation, or because they think it's good for google SEO.
But, custom nameservers have their own challanges:
* One thing, they are tricky to set up.
* Another thing, they don't provide full stealth protection. Tools like the DNS Report easily discover the tricks.
* A third issue is performance. In the last year, since I've moved to my custom nameservers, my performance went 50% down. Many times, my websites were not available.
This morning, I've went to godaddy pointed all of my domains to the default name servers of my site5 reseller account. The result? Pages load up twice as fast! On לבבי בניית אתרים, my homepage, I get 5 seconds page load time instead of 10 seconds before. No more lame nameservers? I will continue to check the issue. It seems the reason is that the default nameservers are on a faster computer.
To summerize, simpler is better. Standard nameservers are enough.
