SurfSpeedy vps Review

There's a great demand for Virtual Private Hosting (VPS) these days, as they provide the flexibility of dedicated hosting accounts where root access can be managed quite inexpensively.

There's a great demand for Virtual Private Hosting (VPS) these days, as they provide the flexibility of dedicated hosting accounts where root access can be managed quite inexpensively.

In the case of Virtual Private Servers the bills are cut by making it appear dedicated thanks to partitioning and virtualization technologies, but it is actually part of a shared hosting where there are other partitions managed by other customers of the web hosting. Good system specifications are required to make this type of hosting reliable and SurfSpeedy strives to deliver them with mixed results.

About SurfSpeedy Hosting

SurfSpeedy is a hosting provider that not only provides Virtual Private Server packages, but also cheaper Virtual Dedicated Server packages which work similarly to VPS, but run on different virtualization software. Both packages run on software by Parallels with VPS using Parallels Virtuozzo Containers and VDS using Parallels Sphera. Additionally, standard shared web hosting plans are also available including a shared reseller plan.

Pros

The boast of SurfSpeedy are the prices - although they start at .95 a month which is a little bit more than some of the respectable VPS providers, the lowest plan offers good RAM to hard disk space ratio with 256 MB RAM and 40 GB space. The specs can be multiplied for a little bit more than double the cost or triple the cost for the best VPS plan and all equally have decent security features. The features are clearly laid out in easy to read tables.

Cons

One of the biggest problems that SurfSpeedy suffers from lately is the lackluster support that they have been giving to customers these days. It is first noticeable with the billing system which may require you to contact their support team constantly just to get updates on billing statements. They do not provide 24-h support limiting their hours to 9:00am to 9:00pm EST. E-mails are usually responded after 48 hours and they often do not cover the problem at hand. Some reviews speculate these problems occurring right after Jumpline took over the service.

The reliability doesn't match up with the other hosting providers either with downtimes lasting from 5 to 20 minutes possibility leading to a few hours. Database information can even be lost, which together with the poor support makes using this service for highly secure business sites rather risky.

It is probable that SurfSpeedy handled these issues, yet customer support remains their real flaw. They still deserve some recognition for offering amazing and affordable packages, but delayed responses combined with poor handling of problems takes it away from the recommended list of Virtual Private Server hosting sites. SurfSpeedy may deserve a second look if they update their website or display any news updates regarding revisions of their support system or upgrades to their reliability. My personal advice is to stay away from SurfSpeedy unless more positive reviews start surfacing.
